Bring Me the Horizon @ Brixton academy 6/11/13

As we arrived at the venue it was impossible to see the end of the queue and clear that some fans had been waiting hours if not days, so when the doors opened at 7pm we knew that we would be waiting quite some time to get in. By the time we had gotten through the doors, grabbed a tshirt, dumped our stuff in the cloakroom and made a crucial toilet stop, it was coming up to 8oclock and the first support ‘Sights and Sounds’ were coming to an end, however what i did manage to hear was average. The vocals were good however the drums covered them alot and ruined the experience slightly.

The same cannot be said for the second support act, ‘pierce the veil’. They were incredible! Having a band as big as pierce the veil supporting was surprising but BMTH don’t settle for anything less than perfection. The screams from the crowd were enough to pierce your bloody eardrums let alone pierce the veil! The crowd went crazy as soon as the backdrop was up, and when they came onstage i began to wonder who i was here too see, they truly owned the stage. They performed classics such as ‘A match into water’ and ‘Bulls in the bronx’. They also performed ‘King for a Day’ but due to the BMTH and SWS twitter feud earlier this year, Kellin quinn was nowhere to be seen.
After PTV the crowd was pumped and eagerly awaiting BMTH’s entrance. As this was my first BMTH gig i was anxious, i hoped that they lived up to my high expectations, and i’ve got to say, they didn’t disappoint. They came on stage behind a black sheet and as the intro to ‘Can you feel my heart’ began, we could only see their silhouettes. As the sheet dropped the screams were phenomenal and as Oli shouted ‘HERE WE FUCKING GO’ the crowd erupted, and from that moment not a single person stood still. Bring me the Horizon performed an 11 song set and then came back for encores ‘Blessed with a curse’ and ‘sleepwalking’. The set consisted of old songs such as ‘Diamonds aren’t forever’ and ‘Chelsea smile’ aswell as songs from the new album ‘Sempiternal’ meaning that old and new fans could unite and enjoy the music together. Oli really knows how to keep a crowd lively throughout a performance and demanded a wall of death and circle pits literally splitting the crowd in half. During ‘Chelsea smile’ he demanded the crowd to ‘kick someone in the cunt’ which is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard someone shout on stage, he has a magnificent stage presence and inspires anarchy at his gigs, what more could you want from a metal show?
This was hands down one of the best gigs i’ve ever been too and i wish i could have gone again the following night.
The only fault i could find with the night was not with the band themselves but with the stewards. I appreciate that their jobs must be very stressful and tiring but i was shocked to see a steward punch another man in the face, inducing a full blown nosebleed, all for (from what i could see) no reason. Other than this, the gig was 10/10 and i hope they tour the UK again very very soon.
