SUN GIANT EP

Lancaster based boys SUN GIANT are a psychedelic trio who could make the elderly feel young. Their sound brings eternal youth and powerful vibes.
These guys have a sound similar to Hendrix himself and the vocals have an Alex turner feel about them. After hearing their older music such as 'Yuletide' and 'Angel Woman' I was expecting some decent music but they went above and beyond what I had in mind. They recently supported bands such as Drenge and To Kill a King and their ability is astonishing. With bands such as Temples bringing psychedelic music back under the radar and many aspiring psych artists such as SUN GIANT, i sense beautiful things on the horizon for the psych genre.
Although the band has three members the new self titled EP only consists of lead vocalist/guitarist Liam Fairclough and backing vocalist/drummer Tomas Walmsley (not to be confused with Thomas Walmsley of Temples). The EP has three songs, each as catchy as the next. Although one song in particular stands out for me. 'When will it be worth it' is two minutes of punchy riffs and drums, followed by two minutes and ten seconds of relaxing vocals, resulting in a very trippy record and two minutes and ten seconds of pure gold. Tomas' spontaneous approach to drumming paired with Liam's crazy guitar skills is a match made in musical heaven.
I cannot wait to see what they've got in-store for us in the near future and now that they're being recognized the only way is up. Keep an eye out for them as they're going to be very successful very soon. They're bringing back psychedelia and it's about bloody time.
We are here. Where are you?

Peace LIVE @ Shepherds Bush Empire 7/12/13

Considering some people had been queuing since 11am, it was surprisingly short when we arrived at London’s famous Shepherds Bush Empire at 7pm (the same could not be said for the cloakroom queue, however). As we made our way into the standing area, I noticed that the crowd was a mixture of all ages and everyone there looked different to the next, although they did have two things in common. Firstly they were all absolutely battered by the time the first support came on. Secondly, they all had the same passionate love for Peace.
The first support was Troumaca whose sound I would describe as ‘Tribal trance’, which is something that I may or may not have just made up, but it does sum them up perfectly. They got the crowd on their feet and had the coolest haircuts that I’ve ever seen which was an added bonus. They only did a 30 minute set but I sense big things for them in the near future.
The second support came in the form of Is Tropical who also performed for 30 minutes and had a very impressive light show to match. Is Tropical also have a trance-like element to their sound that sends the crowd mental. The highlights were ‘The Greeks’ and ‘Dancing Anymore’ which I liked before I saw them played live, but am now in love with. Very impressive indeed.
At 9:40pm, Peace graced the stage. They didn’t speak much but this made time for more music so there was no complaining from us. It’s always magical when a band are so good live that you forget about everything else and all that matters is what’s happening right there and then, and that is exactly what happened. The crowd seemed to form an unbreakable bond and instead of being crushed and squished against sweaty bodies, everyone seemed to move at the same time, making the whole experience comfortable and enjoyable as well as crazy. They played their well-known songs such as ‘Lovesick’ and ‘Wraith’ as well as new material and a full version of ‘1998’which sounded completely angelic. The encore was ‘California Daze’ and ‘Bloodshake’ and the biggest and craziest mosh pit came right at the end during the chorus of ‘Bloodshake’. When Harrison sang ‘YOU VIBE SO HARD’ everyone lost it. It was also cool to find Josh McClorely of The Strypes moshing throughout. The only disappointments were that they didn’t play their version of ‘Last Christmas’ and I wished that the set was longer as I could’ve listened to them all night , but you can’t win them all, can you.

Bring Me the Horizon @ Brixton academy 6/11/13

As we arrived at the venue it was impossible to see the end of the queue and clear that some fans had been waiting hours if not days, so when the doors opened at 7pm we knew that we would be waiting quite some time to get in. By the time we had gotten through the doors, grabbed a tshirt, dumped our stuff in the cloakroom and made a crucial toilet stop, it was coming up to 8oclock and the first support ‘Sights and Sounds’ were coming to an end, however what i did manage to hear was average. The vocals were good however the drums covered them alot and ruined the experience slightly.

The same cannot be said for the second support act, ‘pierce the veil’. They were incredible! Having a band as big as pierce the veil supporting was surprising but BMTH don’t settle for anything less than perfection. The screams from the crowd were enough to pierce your bloody eardrums let alone pierce the veil! The crowd went crazy as soon as the backdrop was up, and when they came onstage i began to wonder who i was here too see, they truly owned the stage. They performed classics such as ‘A match into water’ and ‘Bulls in the bronx’. They also performed ‘King for a Day’ but due to the BMTH and SWS twitter feud earlier this year, Kellin quinn was nowhere to be seen.
After PTV the crowd was pumped and eagerly awaiting BMTH’s entrance. As this was my first BMTH gig i was anxious, i hoped that they lived up to my high expectations, and i’ve got to say, they didn’t disappoint. They came on stage behind a black sheet and as the intro to ‘Can you feel my heart’ began, we could only see their silhouettes. As the sheet dropped the screams were phenomenal and as Oli shouted ‘HERE WE FUCKING GO’ the crowd erupted, and from that moment not a single person stood still. Bring me the Horizon performed an 11 song set and then came back for encores ‘Blessed with a curse’ and ‘sleepwalking’. The set consisted of old songs such as ‘Diamonds aren’t forever’ and ‘Chelsea smile’ aswell as songs from the new album ‘Sempiternal’ meaning that old and new fans could unite and enjoy the music together. Oli really knows how to keep a crowd lively throughout a performance and demanded a wall of death and circle pits literally splitting the crowd in half. During ‘Chelsea smile’ he demanded the crowd to ‘kick someone in the cunt’ which is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard someone shout on stage, he has a magnificent stage presence and inspires anarchy at his gigs, what more could you want from a metal show?
This was hands down one of the best gigs i’ve ever been too and i wish i could have gone again the following night.
The only fault i could find with the night was not with the band themselves but with the stewards. I appreciate that their jobs must be very stressful and tiring but i was shocked to see a steward punch another man in the face, inducing a full blown nosebleed, all for (from what i could see) no reason. Other than this, the gig was 10/10 and i hope they tour the UK again very very soon.
